It's Over

I blame The Man for my love of Harry Potter.  I had managed to escape the insanity until after we were married.  Then, as a newlywed couple (of two or three weeks) The Man tells me he really wants to see the movie The Half Blood Prince in the theater.  Being the good wife that I am, I agreed even though I didn't care to see it.  I was a little confused during it and he had to explain things.  But I wanted to know what came next and what happened before.  The Man owned all the Harry Potter movies before this one so that week we had a Harry Potter marathon.  Everything made so much more sense!  I enjoyed the movies a lot.  So much so that I figured the books HAD to be better (they always are!)  I asked for them for Christmas 2009 and got them.  My parents where here and I finished them all in about two weeks.  I then reread them. And reread them. Again and again and again.  I LOVE them.

Movie watching in the car
I've been looking forward to this weekend since before part one came out.  I figured we wouldn't see it on opening day but I was OK with seeing it sometime this weekend.  Then The Man called and said that he found out that the local drive in was showing parts one and two and did I want to go?  YES! We were going to eat dinner at home and it was in the oven but I looked that their Facebook page and saw that at 6pm they were already open and there were 4 lanes of traffic back tot he highway.  YIKES!  Now that I was all excited to see it tonight I would not have been happy if we couldn't get in.  So we through a bunch a stuff together and headed over. (It turns out that we could have waited to later to get in.  Oh well...it was fun anyway!)

There were a bunch of cars in line when we got there and we were able to listen to the 1812 Overture in it's entirety, plus a few other songs before getting in.  But we got in and got a spot we were happy with.  We got dinner from the snack bar (never had pickles and tomatoes on a Philly cheese steak before though!)  The Man had grabbed his computer before we left and so in the 2.5 hours we had to wait to for the movie to start we watched The 1/2 Blood Prince.  It was also fun to people watch.  There were some people in costume and that was fun.  Seriously though, some people did not look in the mirror after they were dressed...but that's a rant for a different blog post!

Part Two was excellent.  I'm know that there are lots of posts out there about it, so I'll let you go read them. Overall I was happy with the film.  Since it wasn't exactly like the book, there are parts that I would have like done differently but it was still a great movie.  We are still going to see it in 3-D.  We might even go with friends to go see it in the IMAX theater.  I can't wait till it comes out on video...I've already told The Man that we'll be having a Harry Potter movie marathon when it does!

Are you a Harry Potter fan?
What did you think of Deathly Hallows part 2?

  1. OMG! I'm so jealous you got to see it at the Drive in! I love that place and it's been years since I've been there. Sadly there are no drive-ins in New Mexico. Weird, since the weather is so beautiful. Anyway, we're off to see the final movie tonight. Very excited!

  2. Yep Yep Yep! Despite the disaster with the power outage at the midnight show last night, the Sailor and I did get over there to see the movie in it's entirety this morning! I agree, it didn't follow the book in some ways, which I am a huge fan of the series! But I thought it was extremely well done. I will go so far to say that it was the best movie of the series.

But I am OH SO SAD, that it is finally over. Those movies have been the high point of my movie going season for many, many years now!

  3. I'm the biggest HP nerd, but I'm waiting til Mike gets home next week to see the movie. The sacrifices we make for the ones we love.

  4. Love your new page :)

I took two of my kiddos last night. I haven't seen but one other of the movies. I would much rather watch an old Cary Grant any day, but I am trying to be the fun mom during deployment.

    Have a great weekend!

  5. I'm not a fan and slept through one of them. I managed to watch Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban three times though, weird I know.

  6. I loved Part 2. I'll confess that I cried when Snape died and then when Harry was seeing his memories in the Pensive. So sad that it's over.

  7. I am not a Harry Potter fan, but I'm glad you had a great time. It does kind of sound fun to watch all the movies marathon style, though.

Stopping by from Comment Love Sunday!

  8. I was so excited that the theater here in Belize chose to show it...they never showed part one. So I had to see that one on DVD. I don't feel any sadness about it being over. The final book was the ending for me. The movies have been great but the books were even better!

  9. I love Harry Potter. I just recently posted my favorite parts of the movie. I would be interested to hear your favorite parts.

I need to reread the books. They are masterpieces, but I can never make myself read anything twice but my scriptures. LOL

I wonder what it would have been like in the Drive in? I sometimes don't like the drive in because the sound isn't as good.

  10. I can't wait to see it! I decided to wait for my birthday week {this week} so hopefully we'll find time to see it. And by then the crowds should be less crazy ;-)

  11. I feel like I can't watch it as I have totally lost the plot with the series- and only read 3 of the books - but may be tempted -films are always better in the cinema!

  12. Ah! Now I want to have an HP marathon! I haven't seen all the movies or even read any of the books! But I think I may change that since husband and I are stationed in Germany and I don't do too much while he is at work! Hahah. I am going to have to get my grubby fingers on these things! LOL.

It is so cool that you got to see 1 and 2 in a drive in theater! I have never seen a movie in a drive in, but I think it would be the raddest thing ever on a balmy summer night! <3 That is just too cool. I hope drive ins are getting more and more popular. Maybe there will be one back home in Oregon in the future! :) Or even in Germany while I am here!!
