Not long ago my friend Fran posted that she made homemade bread. I was like “Wow, you’re amazing! Yeast scares me!” Fran thought I was a little crazy (she’s not totally wrong.) Fast forward a week or so and Fran announced on Twitter that she’s afraid of using the Crockpot. I was all like “WHAT?!? You make bread! How can you be scared of the Crockpot?!?!” Fran was (is?) afraid that she’s ruin the Crockpot and have to throw it out and order take out. So I told her that if she made some thing in Crockpot I would make bread. I got our friend Erika to join in as well cause she had been following along with the conversation and is also scared of yeast (so glad I’m not the only one!)
Fran made chili in her Crockpot and it was success! YAY for the Crockpot (I think she should make this chicken recipe but that’s just me!) Since she held up her end of the deal, I had to make bread. So….I did.
I used Fran’s recipe. It’s easy and I didn’t have any problems at first, though I was nervous about the yeast. I was able to mix it all together no problem and it rose great! I kneaded it, rolled it out and put in the loaf pans. I let them sit to rise again and they didn’t. So after consulting Fran on Twitter, I baked the bread for a half hour.
When I took the bread out, it looked GORGEOUS! I was so amazed that I made bread! Not being one to wait, I took them out and cut into one of the loaves. Nana, Munchkin and I munched on the warm, fresh bread. It was good, until you ate near the bottom of the loaf…it was not fully cooked. I was so sad. BUT I will be trying again. I know I can get this! If I don’t, I’ll just get The Man to make the bread again.

ReplyDeleteYou should try again! Because of Cora's burnt hands I now make sure Munchkin is out of the kitchen before I open the oven. I know she would do the same thing as Cora! If you click on homemade bread in the first sentence, it will bring you to the recipe that Fran posted on her blog:)
ReplyDeleteIt's only linking to her main site, not the specific post.
ReplyDeleteBoo! I thought I had linked it to the post. Here it is: http://www.freeborboleta.com/2014/01/homemade-bread-no-bread-machine/
