Scraps

When my mom first got me interesting in sewing in 05, I was skeptical.  She had tried to get me into it when I was a kid but I could barely sew a straight line.  I think what got me hooked was the amazing material.  There are some incredible materials out there...just go into any quilt shop and you'll fall in love with a few (Quilt stores have better quality materials than JoAnn's.  Promise!).  You may want to buy half the store.  I'm drawn to batiks and Asian's.  I can't get enough.  The tubs of fabric in my sewing room with testify to this.

As much as I love buying fabric, I love scraps just a little but more.  I have an obsession with scrappy quilts (I'm sure my mom will comment and agree with me!) .  I save as much fabric as I can...I cut them into 2" squares and 2" strips.  I have quite the collection.  I've been working on one scrap quilt for about 3 years...I'm collecting more fabric for it.  I'm a bit picky about my scraps...I only like to use scraps from my projects, my scraps.  I've tried using other people's scraps but I couldn't do it.  I like looking at the scraps and remembering how I used them.  The material in my Dresden Plate table topper AND pillow are scraps.

I have my eye on a few more projects....like this and this.  I do have a bunch of projects that are started...I should probably finish a few of them before I start a new one...right?  Or maybe you should keep an eye out for what I've been working on!

What project(s) are you currently working on?

  1. I'm working on a couple projects right now! A quilt from old college t-shirts, a scarf that will hopefully be finished by the time we get to Ireland, and some crocheted stuffed animals to use as dog toys :) I'm super excited about all of them!

  3. That's so cool! I'm so NOT into sewing it's kind of sad. I kinda failed the sewing portion of Home Ec (I kick ass cooking though).

I'm thinking it's not for me haha.

  4. WOW! Now, do you stitch those by hand or do you have a machine. I have a sewing machine, but I have only made some simple purses, curtains, and pillow cases (really easy stuff.) I love what you are doing though. So pretty!

Just about the only other projects I am working on are my jewelry and then I an binding recycled paper to make journals. I'll have to get more pictures up soon.

  5. That is awesome. I'm trying to get back into sewing. I bought a $1400 sewing machine a few months ago but have only used it a few times. I really need to get on that. Can't wait to see your finished products!

  6. Hi, stopping over and following on the weekend blog hop. I have never been a good sewer but for some reason I also adore fabric! I do scrapbook and love to use it in my pages for added interest. I admire your sewing skills and using up all your scraps, I bet the results are beautiful!

  7. I have a cupboard in my house that's full to bursting with scrap material and accessories from a bygone age. The stuff belonged to my late mother-in-law, her mother, her auntie. It goes back to the early 1900's. It's like Alladin's Cave!!

Found you via blog hops. If ever you're in England, I'll show you the cupboard, I've been meaning to empty it!

  8. I took sewing classes when I was younger. Then, in Middle School, we touched on sewing in Home Ec. I wish I would have stuck with it. I love beautiful quilts and I have so many young family members that I could make quilts for.

  9. I'm not much of a sewer or crafter. I'm usually curled up with a good book . . . I envy you your projects!

  10. My mom taught my and my sister hand sewing. But as I look though all these blogs and everyone getting crafty with their sewing machines, it makes me want to buy one and teach myself. I attempted to teach myself crocheting. But I haven't gotten very far with that. :(
