Getting Organized

I don't know about you, but I have clutter in my house.  It drives me NUTS.  It builds up until I can't take it anymore.  The paper is what bothers me most of all.  We've killed tons of trees for no reason.  I can't tell you how much mail I recycle/throw away/burn.  Mail is the worst.  So to help organize the mail I decided to make a mail holder.

This is what I came up with:

It's not perfect but it will work.  It took me less than an hour to make.  Pretty good for a quick project!

Of course I had to have help!
I'm not sure if you can see him, but Iggymans is on the table and Molly pup is laying on the floor.  This picture is also showing off the new light The Man put in for me while I was in Portland on Saturday.  He surprised me with it when I got home.  Isn't he the best?

How do you stay organized?
How has your husband surprised you?

  1. I am horrible at staying organized. Especially when it comes to important papers that really need keeping. I remember as a teenager watching my mom file things away in a filing cabinet and I adopted that as my means of organization. So far its worked and its out of sight.

My husband recently surprised me with flowers on Valentines day. He despises giving flowers because the die and he thinks they are not a good symbol of love because of that. I have maybe received flowers twice in the almost 5 years we've been together.

  2. I am really bad at staying organized but have started a filing system in our kitchen with bills: one for those waiting to be paid) and one for stubs that need to be filed away. I also try to put envelopes and all junk mail right into the recycling bin or else the stacks start to accumulate on me :)

My husband surprised me on Valentine's Day with a box of Oregon Chai so he could make chai lattes for me every morning before work (my favorite warm beverage). It's been a great way to start the morning!

  3. I try to stay organized as much as possible. Otherwise, I get really overwhelmed. Mail is the worst. I try to get rid of it as soon as it comes in because I don't want it just laying around.

  5. I love this. We bought some hanging baskets we organize mail in. Recently I bought some cute file folders to better organize all the crap in the hanging baskes. I also got an under the bed shoe organizer and a over the door jewelry organizer. I think I caught your organization bug. :)

  7. I HATE all the paper. I REALLY hate when I have set up online bill pay and the companies swear they still have to send me a paper bill for legal reasons. ARRRRGGGH. Glad you are getting yours under control.

  8. That's way cute!!! Good idea! I may see if I can whip up something similar to cover the breaker box that is located on the wall right in front of our front door!!

We use baskets to collect everything...which get overloaded and then i have to buy more baskets!! it's not a great system...lol I'm in search for a new one :)

  9. Very cute! I confess to not being organized--gotta work on that.

Hubby surprises me when he works on projects that he really doesn't want to do but knows I can't do!

  10. The mail pile up is a HUGE problem over at my house too! It drives me insane! Your mail organizer is really cute, but I'm not sure even that would help us. How sad!

*Side note: I also read your post about following/blog hops, and I couldn't agree more! I love that you put that out in writing!

  11. Good idea.. I love how it's hung behind the door. We need something like this. Our mail tends to gather in a very messy pile behind the door.
(I left you a few awards on my blog)

  12. Very cute mail sorter! I am feeling the urge to sew a few things...spring gets my productive/organization motivation up and running!

My hubby manages to surprise me every day with little things. Today he got up extra early and did the grocery shopping before I woke up, just because he knows that I would rather not do it!

    Have a fantastic week!
