Better Together

As I write this, it's about 7:30 and my husband has been working for 12+ hours.  I ate dinner, alone, a few hours ago, knowing he would be late again tonight. I could be annoyed or put out.  Late nights haven't been all that common for the past two year but I know that's changing.  I know my husband is working hard, working on solving problems and making sure that work is getting done in his division, even if it means doing it himself.  He's working hard for me, for us and for his country.  So instead of being upset I choose to be thankful.  Thankful that I have a husband who is willing to work hard and put in the long hours.  He probably could have been home already but instead he's doing the things that need to get done.  I'm proud of him.  And thankful that he's mine.

I love this song and it reminds me so much of us.  At our wedding it was my song to him.  So tonight, when I'm hoping he'll be home soon, this is the song that I have stuck in my head.

Better Together by Jack Johnson

There is no combination of words I could put on the back of a postcard
No song that I could sing, but I can try for your heart
Our dreams, and they are made out of real things
Like a, shoebox of photographs
With sepia tone loving
Love is the answer,
At least for most of the questions in my heart
Like why are we here? And where do we go?
And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy and
Sometimes life can be deceiving
I'll tell you one thing, it's always better when we're together

Mmm, it's always better when we're together
Yeah, we'll look at the stars when we're together
Well, it's always better when we're together
Yeah, it's always better when we're together

And all of these moments
Just might find their way into my dreams tonight
But I know that they'll be gone
When the morning light sings
And brings new things
For tomorrow night you see
That they'll be gone too
Too many things I have to do
But if all of these dreams might find their way
Into my day to day scene
I'd be under the impression
I was somewhere in between
With only two
Just me and you
Not so many things we got to do
Or places we got to be
We'll sit beneath the mango tree now

It's always better when we're together
Mmm, we're somewhere in between together
Well, it's always better when we're together
Yeah, it's always better when we're together

Mmm, mmm, mmm

I believe in memories
They look so, so pretty when I sleep
Hey now, and when I wake up,
You look so pretty sleeping next to me
But there is not enough time,
And there is no, no song I could sing
And there is no, combination of words I could say
But I will still tell you one thing
We're better together.

  4. We saw him sing this in Hawaii and it was so surreal. It was one of the songs on our playlist at our wedding too! And it's my ringtone for him. You have a great attitude. I've been in the same position before with my husband working late onboard. It's frustrating and it kind of stinks, but I have to remember, it's for the greater good. He's doing it to keep everyone onboard safe.

  8. Thanks for stopping by! I love your attitude on this subject. My husband works late and out of town often so when I have those evenings of feeling upset I will have to remember this and instead be thankful that he is working hard to provide for us!

  9. I LOVE this song! My favorite line:

"At least for most of the questions in my heart
Like why are we here? And where do we go?
And how come it's so hard?"

    Sigh.

  10. It's funny when you get to the point when your husband coming home late doesn't bother you anymore. I'm actually surprised and think something is wrong when OccDoc arrives home on time.

  16. It is hard spending all that time alone, I could only imagine.

I definitely love this Jack Johnson song, you should listen to the Jason Mraz song, Lucky, my husband and I walked back up the aisle after we said I do to it! I think you'll love it since you are a fan on JJ. Enjoy! :)
