Excitement

We’re so excited for Friday, kinda like a kid is excited for Halloween and Christmas combined.  Wondering what’s so special about Friday?  Well, about mid-morning The Man and I will be moseying over the Navel Hospital for an ultrasound.  I’ll be almost 19 weeks and we’ll be finding out if munchkin is a boy or a girl.

Before munchkin came along, I had wanted a boy first…both of us did.  But once there was an actual munchkin I realized that I wasn’t thinking of munchkin as a little boy.  I was thinking that munchkin was a girl.  I think it was helped along but a few dreams I had of a girl.  Ever since I’ve just thought that we’re having a girl.

The Man remains convinced that munchkin is a boy.  It will be great to find out and see which one of us is right since one of us will be!

I’m wondering what YOU think!

Do you think munchkin is  girl or a boy?

And in case you’d like some more info to help make an “informed” decision, let me tell you how I fit with two old wives’ tales.

1.  The old wives tale (from what I’ve found on the internet) is that a heartbeat over 140 is a girl and below is a boy.

Munchkin’s heartbeat was between 150-160 the second time we heard it and was 148-150 the third time.

2.  “They” say that carrying high is a sign of a girl and carrying low is a sign of a boy.

I’m carrying munchkin low.  I feel like I have a big stomach pooch now.  It still not very visible under clothes (which is why you haven’t gotten any photos yet!)  but I’m hoping that by 20 weeks I’ll be showing.  Then you’ll get photos, I promise!

And if you’d like to take a guess at names, feel free.  We’re three deep, complete with middle names, on each side.  We do know our #1 for each so that’s what we’ll be going with.  I’ll even give you a few hints:

1.  Both names are biblical.  Boy name is from the NT while the girl name is from the OT.

2.  While neither is super common, I have NEVER met a female with the name we have chose.  I haven’t met very many of the boy name but they are out there!

3.  Middle names are family names…his side for the boy, my side for the girl.

Any guesses for names?

  1. Both my boys had heartbeats in the 160s, and they're both boys, so I will have to side with The Man on this one!

How exciting!!!  I remember the feeling, and it really does feel like Christmas.  :)  So glad your hubby could be there for the appointment (mine missed it both times)!

  2. My son's heartbeat was also in the 160's....sooooo, me thinks The Man Jr. is sleeping inside you.

Can't wait to find out for sure!

  3. How exciting! I carried low with our son and high with our daughter, but I can't remember the heart rate for either. I'm guessing boy, but I've been wrong before! Can't wait to hear!

  4. Well, first of all the old wive's tales are definitely that.  I had a doctor tell me when I was pregnant with Sunflower, that is some truth to the faster heart beat being an indication of gender, however, when I was pregnant with Snapdragon, his heart rate was always over 150 and I was convinced I was having another girl.  So it was a big surprise to me, when I found out he was a boy.  I don't think I carried any differently, with either of my pregnancies. So I can't say anything about that..

I am going to have to go with boy as my guess too.   And, yay that the Man is going to be able to join you for the ultrasound. The Sailor was doing pre-deployment workups, and was stuck on board ship, when I had my gender u/s for Snapdragon.  I can't believe you are nearly half way through already! :)

  5. I carried Evelyn low too! hopefully you wont have back labor like I had...but I kinda knew I was gonna have back labor since my period cramps were always HORRID.....ok TMI. I am SOOO excited for you!!! its so much fun njoy every minute! BTW anyone that says if you dream its a girl then its a boy, LIES! I knew Evelyn was a girl from the moment I read the pregnancy test, ad I had dreams she was a girl and she's a girl! :)

  6. I was convinced we were having a girl and all the old wive's tales said girl....but as I write this I'm snuggling with our baby boy!!!

So my guess is boy!! :)

  7. I thought from day one I was having a girl.  Her heartbeat has always been around 150.  And I'm carrying her high.

I think, if you think it is a girl, then it probably is.

  8. well you already told me the names so it's not fair to guess! Prayers that your ultrasound goes smoothly and regardless of whether you are having a boy or a girl, I hope he/she is healthy! ... and I think a boy or a girl is awesome. I used to want all boys and got my boy first. Then my daughter came along and I can't imagine not having her around. :)

  9. Hmmm! :) I'll just say that the night before my ultrasound with Millie, I had my one and only baby dream, and in that dream, I was at my ultrasound and they were telling me it was a girl. I wanted a boy until then, but after that dream, I woke up that morning finding I wanted a girl. When they told us it was a girl, I was so thrilled and surprised!

  10. Can't wait to find out if you are having a boy or a girl!!!!!  So exciting!  Praying that all will go well and you will get good news all around (healthy baby is most important)!  I have no guesses on the names b/c I'm not that familiar w/ the bible except for the common names.  My coworkers nephew had a boy last year and named him a crazy name from the bible but I have no clue how to spell it.  It starts w/ an E or a Z and could be zeke for short. . .

  12. Ultrasounds are magical! One of my millie wife friends had hers when her husband was out on training and there was no way around it,  so she asked me to go with her. I kept telling her she was going to have a girl but she kept thinking it was a boy, man was she surprised when they showed her her little girl! haha. Make sure to ask for a lot of pictures, if you see an image you like, ask if they can print it! We didn't know we could start asking for them right away so we missed out on a lot of them!  I'm so excited for you lady.

  13. Well since I was convinced you where a boy and didn't pick out a girl's name I should not guess what my awesome, wonderful, much loved grand munchkin is.   I just pray both of you are healthy and the new daddy survives!!  I'm so excited for Friday!!!!!  (Of course everyone I know, knows about Friday!! :))  Love you bunches

  14. I learned from that...that why we have names for both genders picked out:) I'd be surprised if everyone you know didn't know about Friday! Like daddy, I know that you are proud and love me (and The Man) lots! Love you mom! And yes, I promise you'll find out before Facebook & the blog!

  15. Ooh, good tip! I don't think I would have known to ask for pictures...I would have just taken what they gave me!

  18. Hehe...thanks for not sharing:) I told DH told that I think that when we do find out, I'll be just a little disappointed that munchkin isn't the other. Guess we'll just have to have another one and pray we get the opposite!

  19. And a very cute boy at that! How are you enjoying mommyhood?

  20. Thanks for the heads up about the back labor! If I had to guess...I'm going to say I'll have it. So much fun to look forward too!

  23. I think this is one time we won't mind the other being right! Sad that your DH missed both of yours! Maybe it's an upside of being in the shipyard:)

  24. My #3 felt so different from my other pregnancies I really thought he was a girl.  I had such a strong feeling of girl too but I was wrong...LOL I guess you never really know.

As for names I am not sure.  All three of mine are from the Bible too :)
