39 Weeks

I’ll be 39 weeks tomorrow.  That’s the magic number for me.  Since munchkin did not cooperate this weekend and come on her own we get evict her.

We’re mean parents, I know.

Before you start giving me a hard time about evicting her at 39 weeks, please realize that the induction is scheduled for medical reasons.  In women with gestational diabetes, the placenta starts to break down sooner, often around 39 weeks.  Going longer increases the likelihood of munchkin being stillborn.  We’re very much not ok with that and are willing to go with the knowledge of our midwife and the medical community has so we’re going with it.

I had really hoped to avoid the induction but since my daughter is cozy we’ll force her out.  I”d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous.  I am, mostly because of the complications that can arise.  I’d really  love to avoid a c-section so I’m praying that the induction will be successful.  I’m still praying that I’ll be able to have a pain med free birth.

The current plan, which may change, has us calling Labor & Delivery Monday night.  If there is room for us and no emergencies, we’ll go in an hour later so they can start the induction process.  I’ll get a sleeping pill and hopefully get some rest.  The best case scenario is that I go into labor from this medication.  If not, I’ll get Pitocin on Tuesday morning and we’ll go from there.  Sooner or later we’ll have a munchkin!

I would very much appreciate your prayers.  I would appreciate prayers for The Man and I, that we would be able to make the necessary decisions and for the hospital staff, for wisdom and discernment.  I’m struggling a little with trust at the moment because this is not the birth I’d hoped for and wanted.  I know that God already knows what will happen and He is in control.  I’m doing my best to rest in Him but I’m struggling just a little bit.  Thank you!

  1. You're already a great mom for choosing to have her healthy at 39 weeks than potentially not as healthy at 40 weeks. It sounds like you are doing what you know is best, and keep that mentality throughout the delivery.

I know how you feel about not having the birth you wanted. I was so upset that my first ended up being induced, then when he got stuck, an emergency c-section. But after a few weeks, I realized that we have very little control over nature, but full control over making the best decisions possible with the cards we're dealt.

Good luck!! I'll be crossing my fingers for you! :)

  4. I'm so excited for you 3!!! It is so scary to walk into the hospital KNOWING when you walk out, your baby will be in your arms. You can do this - trust your body and your midwife...and try not to fight the discomfort. I know it sounds crazy - but relaxing into each contraction can make it go much smoother. (I've had to have pitocin all FOUR times....and ZERO pain meds - it is intense, but such an amazing experience!!) Just know there is a crazy lady on the east coast genuinely jealous of you today. I actually think Labor and delivery is the most amazing experience ever. :)

  7. So excited for you!! Your beautiful baby will be in your arms so soon!! Our baby gets the boot Wed/Thurs at 41 weeks, if she doesn't decide to grace us with her presence sooner...

I have the same feelings as you do- struggling with trusting it is the right decision for her and our health. Obviously going into labor naturally would be ideal, but if it is not meant to be, there must be a reason. We will be okay!

Stay positive. Lots of prayers coming your way!

  18. I've been thinking of you all day! I hope things go as easily and smoothly as possible.

Millie's birth was not at all how I planned, either. I didn't want medicine- I ended up asking for an epidural. I didn't want a drop of Pitocin- I ended up with a lot. I didn't want a C-section, and though I avoided one by the skin of my teeth, it was seconds from happening (they had to use a vacuum with her).

And then, the doctor held her up, and the whole 9 months of pregnancy and hours of labor...it was just poof, gone. It's magic. :)

    Praying for you!

  19. My son was induced after they decided he didn't perform well enough on a non stress test. Long process of mostly me laying around reading a book. Whole process took almost exactly a day, a lot of pitocin and less than 5 minutes ofpushing. And, neither of my kids went to 40 weeks. The Captain broke my water at 37 1/2 weeks, and the First Mate was 38.

Wishing you a happy and safe delivery.

  20. Praying for the three of you. God has a plan, and it will go according to it. Also, IF you end up not being able to do pain med free, remember you did your best and there is nothing to be ashamed of! I had hoped that with Caralyn and it definitely did not go that way.

If you need ANYTHING I am just a phone call away!
