Cruisin’ In A Converitble

I wish I was the one cruisin’ in a convertible (though with all the rain we get, the top would almost never be down. I’m not sure it’s worth having one here!) but I’m not.  Munchkin on the other hand, is!  photo(4)

She’s been in her convertible car seat for two months now (I had started this when we got the new car seat but never finished it. Better late than never, right?!)  Munchkin LOVES her “new” car seat.  She hated her infant car seat. I don’t know what it was about it but she would cry every time we put her in it.  Not just cry a little but scream like someone was hurting her.  It was so painful to go anywhere.  Sometimes she would fall asleep and sometimes she wouldn’t.

She still had some room in the infant seat but since she hated it so much we decided to switch her over early.  I’m so glad we did! She no longer cries in her car seat.  She’s so happy back there.  She looks more comfortable too.

We weren’t fans of the infant car seat.  We almost never took it out of the car.  We only took it out with her in it when she was asleep and were put the car seat in the stroller.  Most of the time we carried her, either in our arms or using a carrier.  We are seriously thinking of not getting an infant car seat with the next baby.  Have any of you just used a convertible  car seat from the very beginning? I’m wondering how it worked for you. I’m thinking it would work fine since we very rarely took the seat out of the car.  We traded in the one Munchkin was using so we’d have to buy an infant seat and then a convertible one.  I’m not going to lie, the idea of only buying one car seat is attractive too! What can I say, sometimes I’m cheap! I’m loving the fact that Munchkin should be able to use this seat till she’s 3.

I never expected to blog about a car seat.  Oh, the things we write about as parents!  Have you ever written a post on a topic that you never expected to write?

  2. We're getting ready to switch over here too! J actually likes the infant one though, and will still sleep in it, so I'm kinda dreading the change. I just can't carry him much longer in it! Is that the Graco My Size? We've been looking at the Graco seats... :)

  3. We switched D to his convertible back in January. He HATED the infant and I was so sad so I just moved him to the bigger. He likes it, but I don't think I could start from the beginning with only an infant. I used a carrier a lot in the beginning, but we would go out a lot and I liked that I could leave D in his carseat as an infant while we ate.

  4. We are going to switch here soon too. As much as it would be nice to buy only one car seat, I would have hated to wake my kids when they are that little each time I went in and out of a store, or to dinner, etc. It was nice that they could just sleep through.

  5. What a cutie! It looks like she liked it. We switched Aubri about two months ago. I wanted to keep her in her infant one until winter was over. It sort of was over when we switched her.

  7. Munchkin very rarely slept through anything in the car seat:( In restaurants she wanted to be held. Maybe the next one won't mind!

  8. Munchkin would never stay in her car seat when we ate out...or very rarely. She preferred to be held. I thought I would like the infant one more that I did. It's just not us. Glad it works for you though!

  9. YAY for the babies growing up:) It's a Graco My Ride 70. We really like it. I feel like she's safer in it too, than in the infant seat.

  11. we put clara in a convertible in my husbands truck at 3 months. we stopped using the infant one all the way around 7-8 months. we just now switched her from the recaro proride & britax advocate to recaro prosports (converts to a booster eventually). we got our $$ worth! remember to keep them rear facing as long as possible, but at least 2 now! :)

  12. My son is three months now and within the last two weeks or so has begun to hate his infant car seat. :( We are looking into convertibles right now but we were hoping to get more use out of the infant seat since it goes up to 30 pounds. (We have the chicco key fit 30). I think they dislike them because they are leaning back instead of sitting up and being able to look around more. What kind of convertible do you guys have?

  14. Did you keep her in the carrier while you would eat?

  15. Not very often. She hated it and would cry. I didn't want her disturbing the other guests so we would hold her. Well, her daddy would hold her:)

  17. We have the Graco My Ride 70. I wanted a Britax Marathon but they did not fit in the budget! We are very happy with the Graco though.
