Abundance

One of my favorite August activities is blackberry picking.  Many Waters Abundance of Blackberries Matthew 6 26I didn’t grow up with blackberries but have fallen in love with them since moving to western Washington.   Blackberry bushes are everywhere!  We have several bushes on the side of our house and they produce more berries than we know what to do with.  We eat them, freeze them, share them, make sauce and jam out of them.  The taste of the blackberries in the winter brings warm summer days to mind.  Without a doubt, blackberries are one of my favorite parts of summer.

This year while we have been picking the bounty of nature, one verse keeps coming to mind

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

~Matthew 6:26

God has been speaking to me and soothing my soul with this verse.  God allows these berries to grow, in abundance, not only to feed us but to feed birds and other critters as well.  God is gently reminding me that just as he takes care of the birds, he will take care of me as well.  I don’t need to worry, he has everything well in hand.

With this verse on repeat in my head, I’m starting to rest on God and in his promises.  I know he will take care of us, even if it is in ways I’m not aware of or expecting.

How do you keep from worrying?
