Anti Clothes Stage

We’re in a new stage (at least I’m hoping it’s a stage!) where Munchkin decides that she doesn't like clothes.  It started last week out of nowhere.  I tried putting her socks on and she screamed and screamed.  Then I tried her pants and as I was putting on the other leg she took the leg I had already put on off.  It was a disaster.  I had been planning on going out but we hung out at home for awhile that day. Eventually I was able to get clothes on her and go out but it took a while.  This just came out of nowhere and it mystifies me.
Many Waters Anti Clothing Stage

We've never been ones to let her run around naked.  I know some people do and that’s cool.  A baby or toddler in a diaper is cute.  We just have so many cute clothes that I like her to wear them.  It’s just still a little to chilly to wear nothing but a diaper.  A compromise has been for her to wear her Minnie Mouse robe.  She loves it. She’s adorable in it.  I just wish I knew what was causing her dislike of clothing.  I’m really hoping it’s just a stage.  I’m just hoping that she doesn’t start disrobing in public.  THAT would be (WILL BE?!??!) embarrassing!

If she keeps this up though, maybe we’ll just take the diaper off and start potty training. I mean, that would an easy way to do it, right?  Then she wouldn’t have to worry about undies or pants, though I could be cleaning up several puddles.  I think I should invest in a new wet swiffer before I do this as our is broken.

Do your kiddo(s) like to run around nakey?
Do they disrobe in public?
How do you handle it?

  1. We went through the "No pants" stage. Right now, we are in the "Panda Costume/Tutu" phase. Don't worry it passes. Although, another phase won't be far behind! I have also heard that, once they start, the phases never end with girls! *bites nails*

  2. Oh man... I'm pretty sure I went through a similar stage. All I wanted to wear were swimsuits so there's pictures of me when I was little where I'm wearing nothing but swimsuits. SO random, thankfully it happened in the spring/summer haha

  3. I was just thinking to myself that Sophia hasn't shown any interest in getting undressed at inappropriate times. It may have something to do with the fact that she panics when we get her shirt around her head though...

All phases are short lived though. Maybe it's just her way of declaring independence.

  5. We're sorta going through this AND potty training. But we're potty training with undies and she LOVES them to the point where sometimes she doesn't want pants over them. Or she'll ask for certain pajamas that are dirty. I do give her choices sometimes, but often she keeps asking for the ones she can't have. Most of the time she just cries and screams, then forgets about it 5 minutes later. I have also been able to leave her in her pajama shirt, distract her with Veggie Tales (or a toy or something), and then get her to change clothes in the living room. This too shall pass . . .

  7. Hehe. She comes by it naturally as I did go through a nakey stage myself, except I would take my clothes off. I'm pretty sure I streaked at a hotel in Disney and my cousin freaked out. I was 4:)

  8. It might be a bid for independence. I've been trying to let her make more choices. I'm hoping this is short lived!

  10. LOL...I love that she loves her undies! I think we're going to get her some Minnie Mouse ones. I often give her a choice about what to put on but she doesn't always pick. Sometimes she just doesn't care...maybe she will in a couple of months? We shall see! One thing for sure, motherhood is NEVER boring:)

  14. I had chosen to let the kids run around the house nakey (with just underwear/diaper) for the sheer fact that they know they have to wear clothes in public, but at home it's okay to be comfortable for now. I still don't like wearing clothes all the time unless they are extremely comfortable so I'm in pjs many times if I don't have anywhere else to go...so why not? I go out enough they get to wear all their clothes I buy...and I've saved myself public embarrassment by letting them be comfortable at home.
