Munchkin’s Favorite Books {19 Months}

Dr. Seuss had a birthday yesterday and everyone gets really excited about it.  I must admit I’m not a huge Dr. Seuss fan, I’m not sure why.  I didn’t really enjoy the books as a kid.  We do have a couple now and Munchkin likes Green Eggs and Ham (which is also my favorite.)  We won’t be reading many Dr. Seuss books to celebrate but we will be reading LOTS of books (like always!)

Many Waters Munchkin's Favorite Books at 19 months

Here are her favorite books, that we read over and over again:

1.  Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown and illustrated by Clement Hurd
She loves this classic.  I have it memorized which comes in handy if she skips pages.  Munchkin loves to point out the kitties and the balloon. (This one currently taking a break with the toys in the toy rotation bins. I wanted her to read some other books!)

2.  Little People Flip Books
We have several titles and Munchkin loves them all.  She loves flipping the flaps.  She loves any books with flaps actually.  I think she likes the fact that the book is more interactive.  Lifting the flaps helps her focus and keeps her sitting in my lap.

3. Snuggle Puppy by Sandra Boyton
It’s a song written out in the book.  I don’t know how it supposed to go so I made up my own version.  This one is also memorized!  Munchkin really likes her other books too.  Perfect Piggies is getting a lot of read time too.
4.  Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson
We checked this one out of the library.  I picked it out because it was a favorite of mine when I was a kid.  She’s loving it so much I think we might have to buy our own copy.  She loves to point to the apples on the apple tree and say “APPLES!”

5.  Any Book with Music
You know those books that have the buttons you push and it makes music?  Munchkin LOVES those.  She’ll get hooked on one and after a few days I usually have to hide it so I don’t go crazy.

6.  Lift The Flap Colors
This is an Usborne book that I got from my recent party (I got $200 worth of books for $60. Munchkin is LOVING her new books!)  Munchkin loves to lift the flaps.

Many Waters Lift the Flap

7.  There a Mouse About The House by Richard Fowler
This is another UsBorne book.  There’s a little mouse and you move him through the slits in the pages of the book as you read through it.  Munchkin loves the mouse.  She reads this one with Nana all the time.

8.  Find the Duck/Puppy
More UsBorne books!  Munchkin loves looking for the puppy or the duck.  We read these multiple times a day.
Many Waters Find the Puppy

9.  Brush Your Teeth Max and Millie by Felicity Brooks and Desideria Guicciardini
Another Usborne books (surprise, surprise!) that Munchkin loves.  I’m hoping it will help her learn to brush her teeth and not just suck the water off the brush.  It’s a catchy read.  We have another Max & Millie book on the way and I’m hoping Munchkin likes it just as much.

10.  The Very Hungry Caterpillar By Eric Carle
She loves to put her fingers in the holes of what the very hungry caterpillar has eaten.  I wonder if this is why she likes to eat so much?

11.  Counting Duckies
This is one of those There are 5 on the tub and one jumps in book.  So it’s the same text over and over.  Munchkin loves it even if I get bored reading it several times a day.

Do your kiddos have any favorite books?

  2. The Very Hungry Caterpillar was my absolute favorite book growing up! I was such a book nerd, but my husband hates reading... I wonder how our Baby Boy will turn out! I'm definitely taking down these recommendations for him though, thanks! :-)

  3. Lily will sit for hours reading anything and everything. We go to the library once a week and check out anywhere between 20-30 books. Usually we read them all in one sitting! It's great your starting young with your munchkin as well! Happy reading!

  4. I like a lot of Dr. Seuss's books, but for a little bit older kids. We love the Very Hungry Caterpillar and goodnight moon too. Some of my favorite Dr. Seuss books are his not so famous books like the ones with his pseudonym like The Best Nest and Are you my Mother? Great list! Thanks

  6. First off - yay for the new blog design!! Looks great! My son's preschool class is celebrating Dr. Seuss this week. I was surprised he didn't want to take There's a Wocket in my Pocket (though when he first got that book it scared him). The kids have gone through several favorites, some of which we've hidden after they get too obnoxious ;)

  20. The Very Hungry Caterpillar was one of my oldest's favorites for a long time - for the same reason. Those little holes are sized just right for tiny toddler fingers. :)

I'd love to have you link up your list for Ten on Tuesday this week! We're not picky about it being a list of exactly ten. http://mcmamasays.com/2014/03/10-things-about-our-new-house-that-make-me-happy/

I also have a list of my toddler's top ten favorite books, from when he was 16-months-old, if you want to compare. http://www.honeyandcheese.com/2013/10/02/picture-books-a-toddlers-top-10/

  40. Awww so nice that she's already interested in books at such a young age, my son who's turning 3 next month is not the least bit interested. He's more on interactive videos for kids.. :)

  41. Some of our favorites. My daughter is 3 and sometimes still asks to read Goodnight Moon at night, I love it, reminds me of when she was a baby and I would read it to her daily.

  42. I've honestly never been a Dr. Seuss fan either. I think my cousin had a few of his books when we were little so I used to read them when I was at her house. I haven't bought any for JR. We have a few books that we read to him to keep the repetition of it. He seems to remember some things from them now as he gets older. I plan to add to his collection soon. He just doesn't like to sit and listen but for so long. All the moms I talk to about raising boys say it's common lol.

  43. I have to be honest, I don't read to my toddler as much as I should. She doesn't have any "favorites" that I can gather. We normally just read once at story time and that's it. She's a busy body and doesn't like sitting down for me to read. I need to add some to our collection at home so that we can read more. Thanks for the reminder and linking up with Countdown in Style!
