What Do You Do All Day?

As a SAHM (stay at home mom), I’ve been asked this question a few times.  I must admit that there are days that I wonder what it is I really do all day.  I consider it a success if all of us are are fed and sleeping at the end of the day.  Some days are great and some days are hard.  I wouldn’t change it because I love being home with Munchkin.    Many Waters A Day in the Life of a SAHM

Most days we’re awake between 6:30 and 8:30.  I know, what a huge range.  It depends on when Munchkin decides to wake up. I get up when she gets up (sometimes daddy get up with her and lets me sleep.  It’s heaven!)  From there we eat breakfast, watch a little Mickey Mouse Clubhouse/Doc McStuffins/Sofia the First and I get a little computer time in.  The TV gets turned off and we play, read books, etc until lunchtime.  We eat anywhere from 12-1.  Munchkin goes down for a nap no later than 2 and usually sleeps for an hour and a half to two hours.  When she wakes up we snuggle and she has a snack.  After snack she’s ready to play until dinner around 6.  We play some more until bedtime around 8-9.  I know it’s late but trying to get her down any earlier is like pulling teeth. She won’t fall asleep until later so why put her down earlier?

I have hermit tendencies and would be happy to stay home most days.  Never fear though, we don’t stay home everyday.  On nice days we go to the dog park with daddy and the puppies in the morning.  We often run errands with Nana in the afternoon.  We have playgroup once a week.  I was watching a friend’s daughter so she had someone to play with.  We’ll be planning a couple a play dates a week because Munchkin is missing her playmate.  She wanders around looking for her.  (Maybe she needs a sibling, what do you think?!?!?)

Thankfully The Man’s schedule doesn’t change all that much so it doesn’t change ours all that much. Many Waters At The Dog Park The biggest factor is that he’s home in the morning so I like to be home in the mornings.  If we’re not home I don’t get husband time and Munchkin doesn’t get daddy time.  I get cranky without husband time, so this is kinda a biggie for me.

I try to clean while Munchkin plays by herself.  She’s really good for about thirty minutes.  It’s amazing what you can get done in thirty minutes.  My house is not spotless.  There is dog hair on the floor  and laundry is almost NEVER caught up (only diaper laundry gets done like clockwork.)  My kitchen is usually clean, so I consider that a win.  Our house is lived in because guess what?  We live in it.  We’ll never make it in a magazine but I’m ok with that.  There are more important things in life, like spending time with the people who are important. I try to keep it clean enough that if someone was to drop by, I wouldn’t be super embarrassed.

  1. I think if your house is immaculate that you aren't spending enough quality time enjoying your children. :) It does get easier when the kids get a bit older because they can help pick up after themselves.

  2. We're currently teaching Munchkin to pick up her books (she does this very well) and her toys (this isn't going as well) but she's 16 months so we have time:)

  3. I enjoyed this post! I work part time (20 hours a week) and I work SO much harder on my days home than I do on my days at "work." Sometimes though, I really don't know what I do, but I do know that I never sit down to take a breath and I am exhausted at the end of the day. Totally worth it though! :)

  4. It is worth it! I was just thinking, what have I done today? I just got on the computer. I know it involved a crying baby and a clean house:)

Thanks so much for visiting and commenting:)
