MilSpouse Friday Fill-In

Another Friday, another MilSpouse Fill-In with Wifey.  If you haven't joined in the fun yet, what are you waiting for?  Head on over to link up!  Just a warning:  This weeks is long with lots of pictures!

MilSpouse Friday Fill-In
1.  What characteristic about yourself has either been strengthened or weakened due to your experience as a Military Spouse?

Good question. My patience has been put to the test.  My ability to go with the flow has also been tried (though that trait was hard won from 3 years living in Asia where NOTHING is written in stone and can change even if the event has already started).  But I think what has been most changed is my trust in God.  I believe that God is good and always in control.  I sometimes (read: OFTEN) forget though.  I've been trying to control things that are out of my control and as a result has been stressed, worried and anxious.  I am trying to give up control to God again.  I've done it before and I know life is better than way.  In Asia I really HAD to trust God cause there were so many things I couldn't control and/or understand.  Here in America it's a different story.  I can function just fine here thank you very much.  I speak the language and understand the culture.  I can read body language and do even simple things on my own.  So I try to do it all on my own, even when I know I can't.  I'm working to get back to that level of trust I used to have.

2.  What is your favorite vacation spot and why?

The Beach
Koh Chang, Thailand with Chiang Mai, Thailand a close second.  Disney is up there on the list as well:)  As for why I love Thailand, let me share a few photos:

Good friends
What more could a girl want?  Koh Chang is a small island near Cambodia where many of the Thai people vacation.  We wanted to avoid the western tourists which is why we didn't head to Phuket.  I love Thailand...it's pretty, has good food (Thai & Western) and the people are friendly.  With the exception of the sex trade, it's a near perfect place to vacation.   And it can be pretty inexpensive too if you plan it right!  If I remember correctly, the bungalow cost us around $30 for 4 nights.  Not bad when you split it 3 ways!  And if you eat Thai food as opposed to Western, that drops the price even more.

4.  Where did you go on your honeymoon?

The Man in Yellowstone
Our wedding/honeymoon is unlike what many military couples experience.  The Man put in for leave 10 months before the wedding and was able to take 22 days.  Yes, you read that right.  22 days!  We had 22 days to get married, move me cross country and go on our honeymoon.  We did it too!  We consider the cross country drive part of the honeymoon.  We stopped by Mt. Rushmore and spent 2 nights in Yellowstone.  Once we got to WA, we figured out housing on base, stored my stuff since the house wasn't ready and then took a week long Alaskan Cruise.  It was awesome and we were more than ready for it!  The Man was in charge of figuring out the honeymoon and figured that an Alaskan cruise was the way to go since we were already going to be near Seattle.  He even booked it while deployed...it's good to know that port calls are good for something!

5.  If you could have any job in the world regardless of money, degree or experience, which job would you have and why?

I think it would be cool to be a Marine Biologist.  I've always thought that it would be cool to work at a zoo or aquarium or Sea World.  I think it would also be cool to do research on whales.  I love the water and this would pretty much guarantee that I would be by water (though marrying a Navy guy does the same thing!)

Another job I think I would enjoy would be to help people readjust to life in the states.  So maybe it would be called a readjustment psychologist?  I think it would be cool to work with third culture kids and other returning to the states after living overseas for a number of years.  I would think that there would also be a need among the military.  As much as I think it would be cool to be a marine biologist, being a readjustment psychologist is something that I can actually see myself doing.  If I went back to school.  Gggrrr.   I don't really want to go back to school.  I probably will at some point...I'd like to at least pay off my undergrad loans first!

And don't forget to head over to Mrs. Muffins and link up for Friday MilSpouse Round Up!

  6. Hubby and I also had an unusually large amount of time together for our honeymoon- he was in college, so he wasn't deployed or needed to stand duty! :)

The Alaska cruise sounds so fun- I want to do that someday!
